Why does this carry a California warning? ↗

Formulated by Sarv Kannapiran, M.D., J.D., M.B.A., founder of Nutritist, created from personal experience with acid reflux and rigorous research into sodium alginate therapy.

Refluxter is a seaweed-derived, clean-label capsule that forms a protective gel raft on top of your stomach contents to help block reflux at its source.

  • Clean label: sugar-free, preservative-free, and aluminum-free.
  • Non-systemic action: works as a physical barrier in your stomach, not absorbed into your bloodstream.
  • Fast and long-lasting: works within 10 minutes and provides up to 4 hours of relief.
  • High-dose alginate: 1,000+ mg of high-G-block sodium alginate per serving.
  • Made in the USA.

Key Benefits

  • Supports acid reflux and heartburn relief naturally. Refluxter uses sodium alginate to form a physical barrier that helps reduce acid exposure in the esophagus without suppressing stomach acid.
  • Helps manage GERD and silent reflux (LPR). The barrier-based mechanism is designed to limit upward acid and pepsin movement, which is especially relevant for LPR symptoms.
  • Capsule-based formula. Vegan size 00 capsules provide a consistent dosing without the mess of sticky gels and contain no artificial sweeteners or aluminum-based ingredients.

Convenient for daily and on-the-go use. The capsule format is easy to carry and discreet to use after meals or before bedtime.

How to Use

  • Take 2 capsules with a full glass of water after meals or before bedtime, or as directed by a healthcare professional.
  • For best results, take Refluxter 15 to 20 minutes after eating, allowing the alginate to interact with stomach contents.
  • Consult a healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medications, or managing a medical condition.

Product Information

Refluxter by Nutritist is a natural acid reflux support supplement formulated with sodium alginate to help reduce reflux-related discomfort. The product is designed as an option for individuals experiencing heartburn, GERD, or silent reflux (LPR). Refluxter is delivered in easy-to-swallow vegan size 00 capsules and manufactured in facilities that follow GMP standards.

Ingredients

Active Ingredients (per serving):

  • High G-block Sodium Alginate - A seaweed-derived ingredient containing a higher proportion of guluronic acid units. This structure helps form a stronger and more stable floating gel barrier, which supports effective acid reflux protection.
  • Calcium Carbonate - Supports the alginate barrier formation in acidic conditions.
  • Sodium Bicarbonate - Helps activate and lift the alginate barrier when it comes into contact with stomach acid.

Other Ingredients: Vegan hypromellose capsule. Rice Flour and Magnesium Stearate (flow agents).

Free From: Aluminum, artificial sweeteners, sugars (like dextrose), preservatives (like polylysine and glycerine), natural flavors, and unnecessary fillers.

FAQs

Why does Refluxter carry a California Prop 65 warning?

A Proposition 65 warning is a California disclosure requirement. It does not mean a product is unsafe, recalled, or prohibited from sale. Sodium alginate is derived from seaweed and, like many natural ingredients, carries a trace amount of lead from the environment. One serving (2 capsules) of Refluxter is below California's 0.5 mcg lead threshold; the warning appears only because we let you take up to 8 capsules a day, and California bases the requirement on maximum suggested daily use. We test every production lot. Read our full explainer on Prop 65 and our lot testing → https://www.nutritist.us/blogs/blog-2/refluxter-prop-65-warning

How does Refluxter work?

Refluxter uses a sodium alginate complex that reacts with stomach acid to form a light, floating barrier or raft at the top of the stomach. This physical barrier helps reduce acid from rising into the esophagus, providing support for symptoms of heartburn, acid reflux, GERD, and silent reflux (LPR).

Is Refluxter safe to use?

Sodium alginate is well studied, with much of the clinical research on alginate-based reflux therapies coming out of Europe. Refluxter draws on that European research to offer a natural option for reflux support. The formula is aluminum-free, sugar-free, artificial sweetener-free, and preservative-free. Always consult your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or have a medical condition.

Does Refluxter help with silent reflux (LPR)?

Yes, and LPR is where consistent use matters most. LPR is harder to settle than ordinary heartburn because what comes up isn't only acid: it also carries pepsin and often weakly-acidic or even aerosolized (gaseous) reflux that reaches the throat. Refluxter's high-G-block sodium alginate, at over 1,000 mg per serving, forms a floating gel "raft" that helps block that mixture from traveling upward.

For LPR, the routine is more intensive than for occasional heartburn: take 2 capsules after every meal and 2 capsules at bedtime, 8 capsules a day. The bedtime dose is essential, not optional, since nighttime is when reflux reaches the throat most freely while you're lying flat, so don't skip it. This "after each meal and at bedtime" schedule mirrors the dosing used in the clinical research below.

Give it time before judging results. In a randomized controlled trial, LPR patients taking alginate after meals and at bedtime showed significant symptom improvement by the two-month assessment (McGlashan et al., 2009, European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 266(2):243-251). That's why we recommend using Refluxter consistently for a full 8 weeks before judging how well it's working, since LPR responds gradually, and stopping early is the most common reason people feel it "didn't work."

Sodium alginate has a long-standing safety record and works locally in the stomach rather than being absorbed. Because Refluxter contains sodium and calcium, if you have kidney concerns or high blood pressure, keep an eye on your total sodium and calcium intake and check with your healthcare provider. LPR should also be properly diagnosed, so use Refluxter as part of a plan you've discussed with your clinician.

Why is high-G-block sodium alginate important?

Sodium alginate is refined from seaweed and contains different structural components. A higher proportion of guluronic acid (“G” blocks) supports stronger and more stable barrier formation when it interacts with stomach acid. Refluxter uses a high G‑block sodium alginate complex to support consistent protective raft formation.

How does Refluxter differ from gels or liquids?

Unlike messy gels or liquids, Refluxter is delivered in easy‑to‑swallow capsules that are sugar‑free (no dextrose), artificial sweetener‑free, and free from preservatives (like polylysine and glycerine). This makes it more convenient and discreet to use at home or on the go.

Can I take Refluxter with my other medications?

Refluxter works locally in the stomach and does not affect the way most medications are absorbed. We recommend taking other medications 30-60 minutes before Refluxter or 4 hours after to avoid the medications getting caught in Refluxter's protective raft. However, if you are taking prescription medications or have specific health concerns, speak with your healthcare provider before adding any supplement.

Does Refluxter contain iodine or affect thyroid function?

Sodium alginate is extracted and purified from seaweed, but it is not the same as eating whole seaweed (kelp), which is naturally high in iodine. Refluxter uses pharmaceutical-grade sodium alginate, which is highly refined, so only a trace amount of iodine remains. Alginate also works locally in the stomach rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream. If you have a thyroid condition or are monitoring your iodine intake, share the label with your healthcare provider before use.

Is Refluxter safe to take during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Reflux and heartburn are very common during pregnancy, and alginate-based products are often considered because they form a physical barrier in the stomach rather than being absorbed systemically. Refluxter is aluminum-free, sugar-free, artificial sweetener-free, and preservative-free. That said, every pregnancy is different, and Refluxter is a supplement, not a medication. We recommend talking with your doctor, midwife, or pharmacist before taking Refluxter if you are pregnant or breastfeeding so they can advise based on your individual situation.
